Update: The Rifter #74 up for pre-order!

Hello!

Palladium Books will be featuring an article of mine, “Rifts® Karimyo, Pecos Empire” in their upcoming issue of the Rifter! It describes a small community within the Mad Max-style wasteland of the post-apocalyptic southwestern US in the age of Rifts. Here’s a link to the pre-order page; keep your eyes peeled for its release!

More updates to come, but as ever I am very busy with various projects at the moment. When I have something to report, I guarantee that I’ll post it here before anywhere else!

Update: Where The Hell Am I?

Is it almost the end of 2015 already? There’s only 5 Mondays left in until 2016, which is some small mercy considering the black hole of pain and suffering every single one seems to become for most of us. Now that my forehead is sore from bashing it against the wall trying to pound out a few thousand words, the fruits of a long night of writing and a much longer day of working the day job, I feel like now’s as good a time as any for some updates here.

Firstly, what have I been up to? It’s a long list, and there are NDA’s in the way of some of what I’d love to talk about, but here goes:
My next eBook, Subjective Vengeance, will be released through Trese Brothers Games soon! We’re hoping to have it out by Christmas, but that’s an optimistic date to shoot for so fingers crossed it doesn’t spill over into 2016. It’s been a blast to write, and I can’t wait to get it out alongside my first Star Traders eBook with the Trese Brothers. Awesome people.
In October I took a trip down to Michigan to meet with Kevin Siembieda and Chuck Walton at the Palladium Books offices. What a day! I brought loads of material, we talked over a lot of it and Chuck sneaked me a glimpse of some amazing art he’s working on right now.
In fact, the upcoming double-sized Rifter 71 & 72 contains some of my game material from that meeting! Since then I’ve done some freelance editing for Palladium on their upcoming book for the Chaos Earth series, Resurrection. I’ve never seen zombies done like this before, and can’t wait to get my grubby mitts on it when it comes out so I can read all the parts I wasn’t directly involved in and get the whole picture. Plus, Kevin even gave me a shout out in the Palladium Weekly Update – how awesome is that?
Before my arm gets tired from slapping myself on the back too much, let me say that there’s been a lot of work this year that hasn’t been nearly as fruitful. It makes me regret not spending more time here, on something that I can share just for the sharing of it instead of holding it secretly in case I can get money for it. The line on where that needs to be drawn, what defines giving it away as a good or a bad thing, I don’t know. Maybe I’ve been miserly with my writing for that reason.
In 2016 I’m hoping to get past that. But it seems that every time I get the urge to sit down and slam a little flash fiction out onto this blog, I turn to the looming deadlines and remember that there’s a lot of stuff I should be doing. Not quite Virginia Woolfe’s Angel in the House, but in a way that’s what it feels like – maybe even the funhouse reflection of it.
In other news:
– There’s a blog post coming (promise!) regarding a great photo shoot I had with an old friend not too long ago.
– Although there hasn’t been a script meeting in a couple of months, work continues on a short film project which I’m hoping we can start shooting for in early 2016.
– Speaking of scripts, I might be working on a few more – but that’s a bit more than 5 Mondays away.
– Anybody know a good literary agent in Toronto?

Update: New Article Up On The Huffington Post, The Rifter #66 Inbound!

The new post I hinted at a short while ago has arrived. I’ll repost it on this blog eventually, but for now you can find it on the Huffington Post here. It’s a heroic tale of man vs. meat, replete with bad decisions and unflappable willpower.

In other news, Palladium Books’ The Rifter #66 (containing a short story by me, Skipping Stones) will be shipping soon! You can order it from their online store here.

I’ll be updating soon with new developments, maybe some more writing exercises from my adoptive group here in Vancouver. I’ve verified that they are indeed legitimate writers because we all procrastinate like champions. Keep an eye out, but don’t hold your breath!

Update: The Rifter #66 Available for Pre-Order and New Huff Post Article Goes Live!

I’m happy to announce that my short story “Skipping Stones” will be featured in the next issue of Palladium Books’ The Rifter!

It’s great to be working with Palladium again, especially so since I can continue a series following the adventures of Happy Ending Solutions. They’re a lot of fun to write.  Palladium has such a rich playground of a universe already, and I’m happy to be contributing to it.

Check out the pre-order on their website here. Order now or check it out at your local tabletop or comic store! (If it smells nerdy, they probably have it.)

Also, an article written by me is now live on the Huffington Post under the title “There’s No Shame in Shaming An Asshole.” I’ll be reposting it to this blog over the weekend, but for now you can enjoy it here.

More updates and work are coming, stay tuned!

Update: Detroit Fanfare Wrap-up and On to Movember!

Detroit Fanfare

I had a great time attending the 2013 Detroit Fanfare convention in Michigan this past weekend. I got to meet some heroes, both personal and fictional, as well as more than a few truly interesting sights and events.

Some thank you’s are in order:

Billy West, for his kind words and inspiration. It’s good to know that I’m not the only artist who was a terrible student in school.

John DiMaggio and Maurice Lamarche, for being awesome and taking time to indulge a fanboy in brief conversation. Maurice said that he was glad that the Brain and Animaniacs had such an impact on my generation, and John was surprised to hear that I was gushing more for his portrayal of the Joker in Under the Red Hood than his work on Futurama and Adventure Time.

Kevin Siembiedia and the rest of the Palladium crew! Not only were they warm and welcoming, but offered some great feedback on new works I’m developing for them.  Kevin was kind enough to run a game of Palladium Fantasy that I was lucky enough to take part in, and I had a blast! Wayne Smith and Matthew Clements were both very good to meet as well, and I look forward to working with them in the future. Last but not least, Chuck Walton and I jived on pretty much everything from style to substance, and neither of us can wait to see what the other does next – particularly more works of ours that overlap!

Finally, Mr. Mort Castle. After enjoying his panel (along with The Walking Dead’s Jay Bonansigna) on writing horror, I was lucky enough to chat with him for a few minutes. Expect a future post detailing some of the pertinent notes from that panel, including some direct quotes from him and Jay!

Movember

I’ll be participating in the not-so-ancient ritual of Movember this year! Not only that, but I’ll actually be trying to raise money for the cause, so you can find my online profile for Movember Canada here.

I intend to post a couple of updates on this per week, so expect some shaven-going-stubbly photos in the next few days.  I’ll be chronicling not only the resurgence of facial hair, but also what it feels like to go from beard to nothing at all and back again. Well, from nothing to 70’s porn star calling card, anyway.

Stay tuned!

Update: Short Fiction with Palladium Books Published Soon!

Hello everyone,

My short story ‘A Cold Night, Dead Past’ will be published in the next issue of The Rifter by Palladium Books!

A gritty sci-fi piece taking place in the rich setting of Rifts, the post-apocalyptic role-playing game from Palladium, this story revolves around a cyborg headhunter named Frost in the ruins of old Quebec City, now simply known as Old Bones.

Featured with the story is artwork by the amazing Chuck Walton, whose rendition of the main character is absolutely incredible! I’m absolutely blown away by the work he’s done to bring Frost to life. You can view his work here.

I’m very happy to be working with Palladium Books, and I’ll have future updates with more details as they happen! Stay tuned!
